The elective course is upon descriptions of relevant biotechnological systems and processes, e.g. the thermodynamics of cells, thermodynamics of metabolic thermodynamics of reactions or the thermodynamics of protein adsorption.
In order to describe processes in terms of thermodynamics the prospective lecturer will be trained in the methodology to analyse and consequently develop and design relevant biotechnological systems and processes.
We will start with a general reminder of the principles of Thermodynamics, e.g. energy, entropy, laws of thermodynamics, how to estimate thermodynamic properties (Ozilgen).
We will analyse the thermodynamics in living systems, e.g. Live cells as open non-equilibrium systems (Ch16).
And work on linear energy converter, e.g.
•How to predict model parameters for microbial growth (ch18)•Energy and heat dissipation in cellular cultures (ch19)•Thermodynamics of metabolism, analysis of metabolic pathways (ch22) example glycolysis, equilibrator etc.
The course will consist of lectures and practical exercises. We will program either in in LabView or in Mathematica.

Thermodynamic feasibility analysis of biochemical pathways. Enable the prospective student to analyse, design and code relevant biotechnological systems at different levels of complexity.
