The "Conservation Biogeography" part of this course (lecture and seminar) is based on the 2011 published text book with the same title, edited by Richard J. Ladle and Robert J. Whittaker. The "Conservation Genetics" part will be less prominent and is primarily restricted to "Phylogeography", i.e. that scientific field within biogeography using population genetic techniques and results for answering biogeographical hypotheses, mainly at the intraspecific level.
However, the lectures will introduce "Populations Genetics", "Genetic Diversity", and "Genetic Techniques" in a basic way. The seminar will be based on the biogeography text book and students talks will reflect selected chapters treated there, like for instance "estimating biodiversity", "mapping nature", "protected areas", "conservation planning", "applied island biogeography", or "biological invasions".

The course is aiming at a broad introduction to the interface between conservation biology and biogeography. In addition, basics of conservation genetics and phylogeography are acquired.
The major aim is to convey the important and fruitful integration of all these aspects for future nature conservation planning and action.
