Situated Knowledge in Pandemic Times: A Seminar on Gender, Landscape and Cities

In this seminar, we will think about how knowledge is always situated, a concept we explore through the writing of feminist science and technology scholar Donna Haraway. Through reading and writing workshops, we explore the way knowledge is filtered by particular bodies, spaces and media. By reflecting on how we use and produce knowledge, and by evoking our own situated knowledge as a tool for exploring the world, we will reflect on what that situatedness means for the work of landscape architects living through ‘pandemic times’. The seminar will give students new perspectives on what it means to read and write academic texts differently, using research on intersectionality, media, gender, landscape and cities as a tool to do so. The seminar is a power-point free zone and requires active engagement of students. Please bring your laptops to class.
