introduction/definitons; aims of fisheries management in different stream-types, eco- /bioregions, different lake-types; legal basis - international comparison;
Rivers: brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout, grayling, danube salmon, additional species; fish communities in rivers;
Lakes: char, coregonids, trout, pike, carp and other relevant species, lake communities;
Management tools overview - habitat improvement, stocking, fishing regulations, establishment of communities;
Habitat improvement for fisheries managment purposes - spawning ground restauration; bank- /instream structures; tributaries; migration routes;
Stocking : history - International examples, management without stocking, propagation of hatchery fish - genetic- and aspects of domestication, hatchery types - hatchery environments, conservation hatcheries, brood-stock management, alternative methods overview;
fishing regulations - catch & release, bag limits, gear restrictions, regulation of fishing pressure;
Management plans - catchment-scale, developement/establishment, needed basic data/knowledge, establishment of communities;
Conservation and protection: protected species and habitats (Red List, Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive), national and international aspects;
Neobiota: history, life-strategies and effects of aquatic Neobiota (fish, macrozoobenthos), consequences for assessment and management.

Lehrziel

Apply ecological knowledge to enhance fish production and to reduce environmental impacts;
Summarise current topics in fisheries management and conservation of freshwater fish species;
Identify relevant problems related to artificial fish production and stocking;
Assess possibilities and limitations of sustainable, ecological orientated fisheries management;
Evaluate potential sources of conflicts between fisheries and conservation measures;
Present scientific studies on fisheries management and conservation issues.
