Lehrinhalt

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has transformed the way how research is done in biotechnology and life sciences in general. This course will provide students with an introduction to the different topics that can be addressed using high-throughput sequencing. Another focus will be the structure and function of genomes, including the methods used to study these aspects. The LVA will highlight the concepts behind genome analysis as well as experimental and bioinformatic strategies used for studying the genome and its function.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Master and PhD students of biotechnology or related subjects.

Lehrziel

Students will get familiar with the plethora of applications of NGS technologies, and will get to know the experimental basics of NGS sequencing as well as the challenges imposed by the analysis of NGS data. Students will get a broad overview on genomics. The seminar will cover original work in the field; the students will acquire competence to present scientific work.
