Lehrinhalt

Intellectual property (IP) is a category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect. There are many types of intellectual property, and some countries recognize more than others. The most well-known types are copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. In an academic environment or industrial research & development units it is obvious that IP is constantly generated by active researchers. On the other hand, IP is also generated outside a research environment. An overview will be given how do identify IP and measures how to protect it and ways to exploit IP will be taught by the lecturer and invited guest such as a patent attorney and representatives of BOKU Research Service (FOS). The FOS team will guide the students through the process of protection of IP by a Ph.D. student. In the second part of the course acquisition, management, and control of scientific projects will be taught. Approaches how to tackle small individual research projects, mid-size project and European wide consortium projects will be shown. Students will be guided how to link the scientific idea to the societal benefits.
