The seminar will cover topics related to mathematics and modern physics that apply to (environmental) biosciences.

Concerning mathematics, the students will learn and work on complex numbers and matrices.

Concerning physics, the students will learn and work on topics related to modern physics with special focus on (special) relativity and quantum physics (atoms, molecules and solids, and nuclear physics).
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basics in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology.
Lehrziel

The aim of the course is to show the utility of mathematics and physics in daily life phenomena.
After the course, the students should understand the relation between mathematics and modern physics with new emerging topics in (environmental) biosciences.
Both physical theories were a great human achievement of the 20th Century and therefore they belong to Human Culture. They deal with most of the known natural phenomena so far.
