This lecture provides an introduction to chemical processes that occur on surfaces. The lecture will focus on understanding organic chemical reactions that can be used to modify surfaces. In modern world-applications surfaces need to fulfill a wide range of mostly complex needs. Designing surfaces of different materials to fulfill these needs is a huge challenge and requires a broad and multidisciplinary approach. Surface etching, living grafting-to/from polymerizations; layer-by-layer-assemblies or supramolecular self-assembly are only some aspects discussed in that course.
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic knowledge of Chemistry from bachelor study.
Lehrziel

The course will help the students in understanding some basic concepts of modern surface modification. It will allow the students to develop own ideas how different materials could be modified and should increase awareness about this important topic of material science.
