This seminar is a PhD and master student seminar for students performing practical or theoretical work at the Department of NanoBiotechnology. The seminar provides training in the presentation, analysis and critical discussion of own data and published scientific material in the field of nanobiotechnology and in particular on the formation, characterization, and application of biomimetic membranes. Issues that will be treated are both current research work and emerging methodologies from the scientific literature.
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

A profound background (bachelor level) in Biochemistry and Biophysics.
Lehrziel

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:
•describe state-of-the-art theories, principles and methods which are important for molecular nanotechnology
•understand and explain how artificial membranes are generated on the basis of at least two different techniques
•assess acquired skills for critical analysis and evaluation of compiled and published scientific data and its presentation
•compare and analyze different ways of thinking in molecular nanotechnology
•validate and predict the characteristics of nanobiotechnological architectures
•discuss and generate knowledge on natural and artificial but bio-inspired systems to assemble functional supramolecular structures
