Lehrinhalt

Developing an understanding for the applied methods in near surface geophysics (seismics, geoelectrics, magnetics, gravity, electromagnetics, induced polarization, and vibration measurements) which are non-destructive, least invasive, repeatable, in-situ mapping method for geogenic and anthropogenic structures.

Emphasis is given to the (i) cross disciplinary delivery of tangible results and (ii) the cost saving aspect of geophysics integrated into site investigation programs. In addition, course serves as refresher in experimental physics.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic knowledge of (applied) physics, math, and chemistry

Lehrziel

Outcome
•Mind mapping of geophysical applications;
•In light of a geological setting to gain ability to select appropriate geophysical means to optimise costs in geological / civil engineering site investigations.
•Understanding that geophysics synergized with geology for necessary quality in ground trothing endeavours.

Expected Result
Assessing Pro/Cons of individual geophysical methods, integrating geological concepts to enhance delivered results;

Acquired Competency
Selecting an appropriate geophysical method as appropriate supporting tool for geological mappings respecting constrains given by resolution, finance, operational theatre, and by pre-determined quality levels. Mastering interfacing communication between geophysics / geology and/or geophysics / geotechnics;
