Lehrinhalt

Addressing complex environmental problems - like those we face in industrialized riverine landscapes today - requires interdisciplinary cooperation between natural, social, human, and engineering sciences. Interdisciplinary cooperation is not trained at universities organized in departments and disciplines. However, it is a competence expected from Ph.D. students like you, in Doctoral Schools like HR21. Christoph Hauer and Martin Schmid, trained in very different disciplines, devote this course to further developing and strengthening an academic culture of trust and curiosity, to support deep interdisciplinarity in HR21.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

No specific previous knowledge is expected, but the course is aimed at Ph.D. students, particularly Ph.D. students of the BOKU-Doctoral School "Human River Systems in the 21st century".

Lehrziel

Upon completion of the course, Ph.D. students can critically discuss their own (discipline-based) research assumptions and that of their peers and colleagues. On a more general level, this course will enable students to consider what is needed to realize the kind of inter- and transdisciplinary research HR21 strives for and that rivers worldwide need.
