Overview of morphodynamics of mountain watersheds including hydraulics of steep channels, sediment supply and transport, channel and hillslope morphology, erosion, river-hillslope connectivity, and river network development, with practical applications to habitat restoration and hazard assessment in a changing climate. Focus is on quantitative predictions and understanding of processes. There will be four chapters:
1 - Landscape evolution: understand the big picture
2 - Hillslopes: forms and processes, incl. sediment production and transport
3 - Channels: little hydraulics, sediment transport, explain long-profiles
4 - Applications: from long time-scales to short time-scales, connection to hazard assessment
- Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basics in physics and calculus.

Students will understand the nature of mountain watersheds. Students will also learn practical skills to calculate geomorphological transport processes in alpine regions. Students acquire problem-solving and critical thinking skills through the use of equations and field data to answer questions about river and hillslope morphology, ecology, long-term channel evolution, and climate change impacts.
