Data Analytics for Socially-Sensitive Infrastructure Planning

This course aims to give a conceptual and practical overview of different data sources and analytical methods to study human movement and decision over urban space. The course gives a brief overview of research methodologies aimed to collect, and model data aimed to analyze and understand the social context of transport infrastructure with the objective of delivering transport project socially just and sensitive to the current climate crisis. The teaching approach combines the revision of methods examples of different practical cases with hands-on experience in analyzing transport and behavior data.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

No specific prerequisites, but an interest in urban planning or travel behavior related issues is welcomed. Basic understanding of quantitative and qualitative analysis would be useful.

Lehrziel

At the end of the course, the student shall:
•Understand the characteristics of different data sources commonly used in urban and transport planning, such as revealed travel surveys, stated preference responses, and other novel data, such as time use and mobile phone-based traces.
•Apply simple statistical and econometric methods to model transport-related data.
•Understand critical criteria for analyzing results from models and other analytical techniques using urban and transport-related data.
•Provide an understanding of the need for and methods to include all social groups
