Lehrinhalt

Organic agriculture in eastern Austria (Lower Austria) is restrained by lacking animal husbandry and rain shortages in early spring and summer. Processes in this dry area are based on a balanced crop management, due to crop rotation and soil preparation, to prevent harvest losses by nutrient depletions, droughts, plant pathogens and weed pressure. Furthermore an increasing humus content to stabilize soil aggregates for plant nutrition and sufficient soil water content is obligatory. Therefore, biodiversity by seeding cover crops and again crop rotation are required.
During the summer semester students do data sampling and compare different aspects of organic agriculture as soil management, crop rotation and soil fauna.
