Lehrinhalt

Social Ecology is an inter- and transdisciplinary research field focused on society-nature interaction in the context of global change and sustainable development. Socio-ecological research addresses key issues related to the SDG as well as questions highly relevant for moving towards low-carbon societies. Socioecological concepts and methods enable cooperation across the great divides between natural and social sciences as well as the humanities.

Social Ecology supports sustainable development through its unique inter- and transdisciplinary concepts and methods in the fields of social metabolism (material and energy flow analysis), land use science (e.g. the human appropriation of net primary production), long-term socio-ecological research and environmental history, socioecological transformation research, as well as integrated socioecological and technoeconomic modelling.

This research seminar provides a forum for doctoral and advanced masters students to discuss current research in Social Ecology. It is targeted at reading, analyzing, and discussing current cutting-edge research papers in Social Ecology. The goal is to allow advanced students (ideally students currently working on their Masters or Doctoral theses) to identify research papers they want to discuss, e.g. because they need them to forge their methods, or because their emerging results relate to these papers, or because they need to understand them at great depth to be able to write their theses.

The selection of currently published and ongoing research to be discussed will reflect the specific interests of students participating in the seminar.

Lehrziel

• Discuss cutting-edge research based on current literature and discussions with researchers
• Analyze current literature
• Critical reading of current scientific literature
