Lehrinhalt

The course introduces different theories and perspectives on transformative change and addresses both historical and contemporary social-ecological transformation processes. We discuss major societal challenges associated with such transformation processes, the role of agency and power as well as contested strategies and instruments for transformative change, and explore their utility for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the phase-out of fossil fuels.

Some of the topics include:
- transformations in social ecology
- conceptualizing the historical emergence of the fossil fuel regime
- labour as a transformative force
- agency and power in social-ecological transformations
- contested transformation pathways (IPCC SSEP, green growth, degrowth, leverage points, fossil free zones, ...)
