② What kind of materials will you make from wood?
General aspects:
Introduction to cellulose nanofibers and cellulose nanomaterials in general, including their preparation, structure, properties, derivatives, applications.
Bioplastics: bioplastic materials, definition, preparation and processing, chemical structures and physical properties, plastic processing methods, current R&D examples and applications, recent developments.
Composite materials, intermolecular and interfacial interaction, preparation and processing of composites with cellulose nanofibers, avantages and disadvantages, current challenges, recent developments.
Application example: automotive industry ("nanocellulose car")
Insights into related circular economy challenges and examples.
- Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)
-
General polysaccharide chemistry, cellulose chemistry
- Lehrziel
-
The students can name the crucial properties of cellulose nanofibers, bioplastics and derived composites. They can derive general principles from an example that is presented during the lecture. They know about the relation between the molecular structure and properties of the biopolymers. The students know the possibilities and limitations of the industrial application of biopolymers and circular economy.
