Lehrinhalt

Learning objectives: Students will be exposed to approaches that bring closer basic science to potential clinical protocols , thus helping to accelate the acceptance of cell-based therapies as viable therapuetic alternatives for musculoskeletal conditions. Lectures will be focused on novel strategies for the identification and purification of distinct phenotypic mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) subpopulations from various human tissues, and the evaluation of their functional properties related to trophic and immunomodulatory actions. On this basis, innovative cell-based and cell-derived (extracellular vesicles) approaches will be presented that safely deliver MSC therapeutic products in vivo. Also, various preclinical models will be discussed that mimic human musculoskeletal complications and can be used to evaluate
the effectiveness of such therapies in in vivo settings. Teaching methods will include interactive group workshops and assignments based on lectures material

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic knowledge in following fields are required: cell culture technologies, stem cells, extracellular vesibles, tissue engineering. Practical experience in the mentioned fields are beneficial

Lehrziel

Students will have an overview on technologies involved in generation and characterization of EV, discuss possible applications, research clinical trials involving EV. Students can outline and present different innovative approaches in muscoloskelletal therapies
