Lehrinhalt

Our course, "Applications of UAV imagery in Environmental and Forestry Studies" aims to familiarize students with the diverse applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the realms of environmental and forestry studies. It delves into the fundamental principles underlying UAV operations and remote sensing, with a focused emphasis on their utility in environmental monitoring, ecological surveying, and sustainable forestry practices with emphasis on scarce data and low-budget projects. Essential topics, such as UAV preparation and flight planning, UAV-RTK (or PPK) vs. collection of ground control points, image processing, and production of DSM, DTM, CHM, and orthomosaic. The course also addresses practical considerations including safety protocols and regulatory guidelines ensuring that students develop an understanding of UAV utilization in environmentally sensitive areas. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to actively engage in UAV flight projects and image processing and gain proficiency in the interpretation of environmental data obtained through aerial platforms.
