This course builds on the course “Biophysical concepts and methods of social ecology: introduction ”, where the students developed a basic understanding of biophysical and socio-ecological methods indicators, in particular material and energy flow accounting (MEFA), social appropriation of net primary production (HANPP), life cycle analysis (LCA), footprint family, and carbon accounting as applied in the Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement. In this course then, students will deepen the understanding of socio-ecological methods, and will learn to critically discuss strengths and limitations of different indicators and accounting frameworks in their practical application.
