Lehrinhalt

--The course is held in english.--
Details will be communicated via BOKU learn.

This course teaches digital design and automated construction by implementing parts of a real research project.

The main topics are
- Parameterization in Rhinoceros CAD
- Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming in PowerMill and Robot Studio
- Pick&Place programming in Robot Studio (RAPID language)
- Quality inspection using laser scanning technology
- Planning a test series and performing measurements
- Manufacturing of structural timber components using an industrial robot in the IGCE robotics laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf.
- Assembly of structural timber components (pick&place) using an industrial robot in the IGCE robotics laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf.
- Manual assembly and woodworking

The individual work steps are worked out in groups and in close discussion with the lecturers. The course takes place at the Türkenschanze site (theoretical first part) and the Groß-Enzersdorf site (practical second part).

Course structure:

Part 1 at Türkenschanze:
- Kick-off presentation and background talks
- Project briefing
- Homework assignment
- Group allocation
- Assessment of the structural geometry in CAD
- Generation of milling data for the robot
- Simulation of the milling paths
- Programming Pick&Place assembly paths for the robot

Part 2 in IGCE Robot Laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf
- Work safety instructions
- Preparation
- Manufacturing of workpieces
- Quality assessment
- Assembly by robot and manually
- Running the test series
- Installation/erection of the structure
- Greening

Part 3 at Türkenschanze:
- Submission of the homework assignment
- Final presentations
- Submission of a final report in groups of two

EDP - basic knowledge
Motivation for active participation in the entire course
Motivation to make a contribution to practical implementation (woodworking)

Lehrziel

At the end of the course, students will have a basic knowledge of the individual sub-processes of digital planning and production, data preparation for automated woodworking, machining with an industrial robot with a milling spindle, pick and place, and quality assessment with a laser scanner. Students will be able to handle simple 3D models, convert them into production data, and perform simple machining with the robot. Students can assemble the structures by hand.
