Lehrziel

After successful completion of the course students will be able to explain the theoretical principles of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), present the general pro-cedures necessary for an analysis and explain the basic information necessary for a safe application of FEA.
...Students will be able to identify the application and characteristics of FEA elements such as members, beams, planar and isopara-metric elements and asses their suitability for different types of engineering structures.
....They will be able to name the advantages and disadvantages of different finite element discretisation strategies for different engineering structures and their typical materials from both the mechanical-static point of view and the possible deterioration processes reducing the lifetime performance.
....They will be able to develop an efficient, stable and meaningful finite element model for an engineering structure and to evaluate its mechanical and environ-mental performance, serviceability and durability over the planned service life (life cycle) using their own structure, material and environment specific perfor-mance indicators or those from the relevant literature.
