The course aims to introduce the concept of development and to deepen the understanding of development efforts on national and international level. By analyzing case studies of the international agrarian sector we cast a critical view on power relations, participatory and sustainable approaches to 'development'. Students shall get a deeper understanding of development establishment and global interdependencies by actively participating in the course.

The course is divided in 6 modules:
MODULE (1) Deconstructing the meaning of 'Development'

MODULE (2) 'Development' cooperation in practice

MODULE (3) Sustainable 'development' approaches

MODULE (4) International players in development, the meaning of coloniality and decoloniality

MODULE (5) Exemplifying power relationships, coloniality and decoloniality with an agrarian global chain (including an excursion: A decolonial walk in Vienna)

MODULE (6) Socio-political alternatives to the establishment?
