4) Legal bases for safety evaluation
- EUROPEAN directives for 90/220, 2000/18 work in closed systems deliberate release for research purposes (small scale), for commercialisation (large scale)
- National (Austrian) Legislation GTG (1995) and amendments
5) IPRs linked to plants and plant products
6) Transgenic food and feed: successful examples
7) Major concerns raised against GMPs:
- What are the issues?
- What are technical bypasses?
- Case by case evaluation
- Step by step procedure

Lehrziel

Students will acquire sufficient bases in Plant Biotechnology to be able to:
+ evaluate independently technical and legal issues of safety aspects related to Plant Biotechnology
+ compare and judge different breeding methods mutagenesis ´ irradiation ´ genetic transformation
+ recognize safety classifications of Organisms
+ be familiar with the legal bases for safety evaluation
+ follow IPRs linked to plants and plant products
+ actively discuss major benefits and concerns raised in relation to GMPs
