Lehrinhalt

In the lecture series combined with seminar, students are given an overview of key topics and strategies in selected fields of sustainable resource use. The course offers both scientific perspectives from current research at the Institute of Social Ecology and other research institutions in Vienna as well as insights into applied aspects of sustainable resource use and resource policy. Topics include:
•Socio-economic metabolism
•Patterns and trends in global resource use
•Circular economy
•Urban mining
•Biomass, food and land use
•Energy transition
•Urban resource use
•Resource policies

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic knowledge in environment and bioresources management; basics in social ecology

Lehrziel

After successfully completing the course
- students have acquired an overview of selected approaches to and topics of sustainable resource use.
- know important strategies of sustainable resource use and are able to discuss their potentials and limitations from a socio-ecological perspective.
- have gained basic insights into the inter- and transdisciplinary challenges in the context of a more sustainable socio-economic metabolism.
