Lehrinhalt

The course will be held in Vienna. It is recommended to attend this course together with the course Benthic Invertebrate sampling and monitoring (812357), which will be held directly prior to this course.

Contents: Ecological status assessment: theory on Screening and Multimetric Index for Austria and other European countries; taxonomic determination of previously sampled benthic invertebrates; application of specific software and interpretation of results, report writing.

Lehrziel

Compare assessment methods currently used in Europe with regard to their respective advantages and disadvantages.
Apply autecological information of selected bio-indicators to identify different stressors of aquatic systems.
Analyse reactions of the macro-invertebrate community to environmental variables.
Evaluate biological data and present and discuss potential impacts on benthic communities based on provided species lists from previous projects.
Apply ECOPROF - the Austrian assessment software.
Interpret and present research results (ppt presentation).
