This course will introduce the students both to the basic discourses that are key to developing a theoretical understanding of urbanism, as well as to a beginning set of tools that are important to the practice of urbanism.
Pedagogical goals include developing a strong sense of analysis and critical thinking which can be used as a foundation for the development of thoughtful spatial strategies in future studies and work.
Emphasis is given to the relationship between urbanism and landscape, and students are expected to participate actively in the course in the regular readings of short texts and note-taking (lecture notes will not be distributed in advance), as well as in the drafting of a workbook during the semester, which will count towards the final exam.
