General outcome:
The students are able to plan and design an appropriate water supply and wastewater system for any village around the world and deliver a complete documentation and defend the project.
The students identify which data they need for the general task
The students are able to do a basic research for the data needed by choosing a software tool and building a database.
Water supply:
ability to...
assess the demand of supply area;
calculate the required volume of a reservoir;
draft a lay-out incl. dimensions of a pipe network;
draft a model of the distribution network (simplified mathematical modelling of flow directions, quantity and pressure head);
draw a longitudinal section with pressure head of the network;
select an appropriate elevation of tank or selection of pump(s),
present the results to the other teams + teacher
Waste Water:
The students are able to generate an appropriate sewer system for the village by drafting a layout and calculating the hydraulics.
The students are able to choose an appropriate technology for the treatment plant, by deciding the location and treatment concept, calculating and drawing the plant.
The students are able to design plans and write a technical report for submission to a "virtual water authority".
