The course focuses on technology particularly used in organic agriculture, e.g., the following topics are covered: Tillage, Fertilization, Weed management, Life-cycle assessment. The special features and differences of organic production compared with non-organic production are shown.
Interactive lecture: The organisational matters are dealt with in the first lecture unit. Here also groups of 3 up to 5 students (depending on the course size; announced at the first appointment) will be formed. During the lecture there is compulsory attendance: absence from one of the lecture units is possible after consultation with the course leaders. Mandatory attendance at own presentation (unless events such as illness, …). All tasks found on BOKUlearn must be completed 100% within the deadlines. Late submissions will only be accepted once by prior arrangement.

The prerequisite for participation in the course is a basic knowledge of agrophysics, fundamentals of agricultural engineering, agricultural process engineering and organic agriculture. The ability to work scientifically is required.

Upon positive completion of the course, students will be able to:
• Name the advantages and disadvantages of technology in organic farming and discuss them critically
• Name the technical challenges in organic farming
• Identify and assess particularities in the application of agricultural engineering in organic farming
• Understand, explain and use technical terms in English
