Models are an abstaction of reality and can be quantitative or conceptual. Forest growth models include the most important factors of growth which are age, species, density or competition, and damaging agents. They can be parameterized for the stand level, the individual tree level or even for the leaf or cell level. Different statistical techniques can be used to parameterize growth models and they can be implemented as mathematical models or as computer program.
