The seminar will cover topics related to mathematics and classical physics that apply to biosciences.

Concerning mathematics, the students will learn and work on: vectorial and matrix calculus, (partial) derivatives and integrals, differential equations (first and second order), limits, sequences and series expansion.

Concerning physics, the students will use mathematical tools to solve questions related to mechanics and waves, bulk materials, electromagnetism, optics, and radioactivity.
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basics in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology.
Lehrziel

The first aim of the course is to show the utility of mathematics and physics in daily life phenomena.
The second aim of the course is to provide training in mathematics and physics to BOKU students. The course is highly recommended for BSc (and MSc) students.
After the course the students should understand the relation between mathematics and physics with new emerging topics in biosciences.
