The term ‘agroecology’ has developed from a historically purely natural scientific definition to describe a research discipline, a practice and a civil society movement. The term has now become firmly established in debates on agricultural and food systems and has gained relevance in national and international scientific and civil society discourses as well as in political positions and legal texts. In this course, students learn to reflect on the systemic character of agricultural and food systems on the basis of agroecological discourses and to discuss approaches for their sustainable transformation.
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic understanding of agricultural sciences at an advanced bachelor's level.

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to
• explain the scientific discipline of agroecology;
• explain and critically reflect on agroecological practices;
• describe the actors and relevance of the agroecological movement.
