This course requires the attendance of the course “Biophysical concepts and methods of social ecology: introduction”, where the students developed a basic understanding of biophysical and socio-ecological methods and indicators, in particular material and energy flow accounting (MEFA), human appropriation of net primary production (HANPP), time use analysis, carbon accounting, and circular economy modelling. In this course students will deepen the understanding of socio-ecological methods by conducting some basic steps in the empirical data work and indicator calculation, and will learn to critically discuss strengths and limitations of different indicators and methods in their practical application.
- Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)
-
Parallel attendance of the course “Biophysical concepts and methods of social ecology: introduction” is required!
- Lehrziel

After successful completion of the course, students understand the key biophysical concepts to analyze society-nature interactions and methods of social-ecology. Students have applied different methods in practical exercises, calculated several indicators and learned about potentials and limitations of different socio-ecological methods. They gained practical knowledge in the application of biophysical methods and the interpretation of biophysical socio-ecological indicators.
