This course is a mandatory part of the European doctoral network BIOTOXDoc, limited to doctoral candidates of the project. The course covers the fundamentals of the climate system, its evolution since the preindustrial era due anthropogenic and natural forcings, and future projections as outlined by the most recent IPCC Assessment Report. The course will comprise also selected aspects of regional climate change and related impacts, with focus extreme events and Europe.
Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Completed master study in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences or a closely related area.
Lehrziel

After participation students will understand the fundamentals of the climate system and how anthropogenic activity has forced contemporary climate change. Participants will be able to contribute to the current discourse on the future evolution of the climate system, and comprehend the societal trajectories underpinning certain emission pathways and the projected climate impacts associated with them on regional and global scale.
