Lehrinhalt

The focus of the guest lecture will be on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and supercritical fluid separations based on chromatography (SFC), together with some training on artificial intelligence methods in the related field. Further topics will be GC-VUV and methods for untargeted analysis. The lecture will start with the basics of supercritical fluids, followed by extraction techniques and chromatographic separation methods. Alternative detection methods such as universal vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectroscopy are presented.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Knowledge in the fields of liquid (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC) as well as supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC), mass spectrometry (MS), analytical chemistry, basics of organic chemistry and general chemistry, chromatographic modes, detection techniques besides mass spectrometry

Lehrziel

The students can name the crucial parameters for SFE and SFC method development. The students know the possibilities, strengths, and limitations of supercritical separation methods. The students can explain the fundamental concepts as well as the theories of the extraction and separation techniques. The students can discuss and explain the respective parts of the devices and understand the basic principles of the devices. The students are further able to suggest suitable separation techniques based on the molecular structure of (target) analytes. The students can name alternative separation and detection methods, such as GC-VUV.
