This year is the focus on:
THE ROLE OF BIOGAS SOLUTIONS IN OVERCOMING THE ENERGY AND CLIMATE CRISIS. MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT - UKRAINIAN EXPERIENCE.
The general aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive understanding analysis of waste generation, its environmental impact, and sustainable waste management strategies. Students learn about industrial waste disposal, regional waste management planning, and the monitoring of waste dumps. Comprehensive biogas solutions as a sustainable approach to waste management and climate change mitigation are introduced, with a specific focus on the utilisation of agricultural waste. The potential for biogas and biomethane production from various waste streams is explored, looking at global and regional trends, challenges and prospects. Students get acquainted with the results of the Austrian-Ukrainian research project on the composition of municipal solid waste and its resource potential.
Specific issues:
1. Waste Management and Climate Crisis – maintain it both with biogas solutions.
2. Agricultural wastes as substrates for biogas production: global and regional. Digestate application for sustainable agriculture.
3. Experience in closing and monitoring waste dumps in Ukraine.
4. Results of the joint Austrian-Ukrainian research project “Study of the composition of municipal solid waste and its resource potential”.
The lectures will be delivered by the invited lecturers:
- Dr. Iryna Vaskina, Department of Biosystems Engineering, Poznan University of Life Sciences (Poland);
- Dr. Nataliia Maksiuta, Department of Applied Ecology and Environmental Management National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” (Ukraine).
