Students will be able to describe different processes of landscape change (historical and future developments) and explain the associated concepts, theories and factors influencing landscape development. This will be accompanied by fundamental knowledge of primary productive land uses, e.g. agriculture, forestry, urbanisation, raw materials management and their impact on the landscape and sustainable resource use in its socio-economic and ecological contexts.
Students can identify conflicting land use claims of different stakeholder groups and reflect on them from a sustainability perspective. Students learn about different policy instruments for sustainable landscape development.
Particular emphasis is placed on landscape-related challenges and change processes resulting from climate change adaptation, climate protection and biodiversity conservation.

Students are familiar with participatory methods in the context of land use, landscape development and resource governance and are able to apply them.
Students are able to contribute to landscape-related policy.
Students develop a comprehensive understanding of complex interrelationships and conflicts in multifunctional landscapes (including agriculture, forestry, raw material extraction, nature conservation, settlement and infrastructure development).
Students develop problem-solving skills and methodological knowledge (e.g. participatory methods) for shaping/managing sustainable landscape development.
