Lehrinhalt

This course teaches you how to translate real problems into workable models and choose among linear, nonlinear, and simple dynamic (ODE-based) approaches. You’ll learn to define variables and assumptions, fit models, interpret parameters, assess goodness of fit and residuals, compare treatments with categorical predictors (ANOVA and post‑hoc comparisons), and judge whether adding variables improves a model. We emphasize interpretation, uncertainty (confidence intervals and prediction), and clear communication over derivations or coding.

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic programming knowledge.
Numerical calculus and inferential statistics are desirable, but not required.

Lehrziel

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
•Identify, implement and simulate appropriate models related to their area of research with the aid of different numerical and statistical methods.
•Implement different computational procedures to solve differential equations and nonlinear equations.
•Draw inferences from fitted models and explain the results.
•Apply critical statistical thinking skills and techniques to evaluate the adequacy of a model.
