TopoSys
TopoSys GmbH was founded in spring 1995 as a spin-off of Dornier GmbH, an air- and spacecraft manufacturer of worldwide repute. In 1996 TopoSys presented the aviation-supported laser scanning system based on fiber technology, the first of its kind worldwide, including software for pre- and post processing, “Falcon I”. Since 1996 TopoSys has operated its own laser scanning system and has covered thousands of square kilometers in area for digital terrain models. Most of these models were generated for applications requiring data of very high resolution and high precision. Building on the expertise gained in operating “Falcon I” and the customer-oriented evaluation of the laser data, TopoSys presented an enhanced Lidar system “Falcon II” at the beginning of 2000. “Falcon II” has, for example, an additional spectral RGB/NIR scanner and enables digital true-ortho pictures of high resolution to be taken. The companies own TopPIT pre- and post processing software has also been subject to ongoing development and adapted to the extended capabilities of the new sensor. Since 2001 TopoSys has produced over 6,000 km² per annum of high resolution, digital terrain models and RGB/NIR data. In conjunction with the systematic development of customer-oriented applications in the GIS sector, TopoSys has assumed the role of the leading service provider throughout Europe. Building on the long-standing know-how in the development and production of fiber optic scanners and in the acquisition and evaluation of Lidar data, TopoSys decided at the end of 2003 to embark on the worldwide marketing of scanner hardware. At October 2005 three newly developed sensor systems have been presented to the community. TopoSys now offers a well-balanced family of sensor systems, which allows its sensor customer to serve all applications from precise wide area mapping to corridor mapping in the optimal way.

TopScan
TopScan GmbH is an interdisciplinary service provider with a workforce of 20 employees qualified in surveying, photogrammetry and geography. Since 1991, the focus of its activity has been the planning, realization and evaluation of laser mapping projects. TopScan owns four measurement systems from the ALTM (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper) product line made by Canada-based Optech Inc. These systems are characterized by a high degree of flexibility (free selection of system parameters), which makes them an ideal choice for a wide range of applications. The systems can be used both in aircraft and in helicopters. TopScan is also equipped with digital cameras made by Rollei GmbH, which can be combined with the digital measurement cameras and thus allow to take pictures that complement the information provided by the laser mapping altitude data. Since the first pilot projects in airborne laser mapping, more than 150.000 km² have been mapped and evaluated, mainly in Germany and Austria. TopScan has also been since 2003 Optech Inc.’s exclusive sales partner for the ILRIS-3D terrestrial laser ranging and imaging system in German-speaking countries. This system allows to perform ground-based mapping and visualization of complex structures and areas, ranging from individual objects to large sections of landscape.
