831 Teaching in English


Target Group:

Lecturers who are planning to or who already offer courses in English

Objectives:

  • Gain confidence in using English in a teaching environment
  • Practice and perfect the linguistic skills required to present and explain educational content
  • Learn to deal with awkward situations in the classroom
  • Prepare for teaching in English in a range of teaching environments (lectures, seminars, workshops, etc.)

Content:

Amongst others, the workshop will deal with

  • Describing processes and data
  • Giving feedback and offering criticism
  • Classroom control
  • Dealing with questions and answers
  • Delivery and language control

Methods:

  • Practical role-plays provide each participant with ample opportunity to practice in a relaxed yet focussed way.
  • Three-stage workshop designed to maximise effect of regular practice.
  • Constructive feedback provides enhanced focus on individual needs.
  • Variety of exercises types offer interesting and effective learning environment.

Trainer:

Anthony Copnall, MA, PGCE Anthony Copnall was born and raised in England. Since 2002 he has been working as a Lecturer at the Institute of English Business Communication, WU Vienna. Alongside his lecturing, he regularly holds English workshops as a continuing education trainer at WU and various other institutions. In 2007 he gained a Master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of London in which he specialised in the use of academic English.
