What you'll need to do? 

Depending on the bioinformatic approach you're taking, the protocol may need adjustments but in general you'll need to collect your samples (e.g. tissue, soil, water, cell culture) and extract the DNA. From there, steps like PCR amplification, shearing/fragment size selection, and library preparation can be outsourced to the sequencing facility.
