This workshop is designed for all doctoral students who want to optimize their online communication skills and to learn how to promote their doctoral research via Social Media.

Using Social Media Channels is an important way of promoting your research and boosting your scientific career.

In this seminar, we will focus on two aspects:

1. Science Communication

Science Communication can be difficult: Conveying complex research topics is challenging for an online audience where simple and short explanations are preferred. We’ll take a closer look at tackling this obstacle and which communication channels are best suited to raise awareness about your field and reach your intended audience.

2. Networking

Networking plays an essential role in pursuing your scientific career: Social media communication can help you find new collaborators, get new projects on their way and position yourself as an expert within your field.

We’ll discuss the following questions:

  • How can I promote my research using Social Media?
  • Which channels should I use?
  • How can I use Social Media for networking?
  • How can I use Social Media for pursuing my scientific career?
  • What can I expect by using Social Media? How can I measure my Social Media performance?

Methods:

Presentation with a lot of examples

Open discussion of one’s experiences and challenges

The participants should be acquainted with popular Social Media Channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) and have some experience with their usage. They should be willing to show their Social media profiles and postings for analysis and discussion.
