Long Term Development of a Population of Heterodera schachtii (Schmidt) Influenced by Production Methods

This paper analyses the development of a population of Heterodera schachtii (Schmidt) at the experimental station Dikopshof of the University of Bonn during the years 1969 to 1984. Cultivation technique and frequency of catch crop oilseed rape were tested running a crop rotation sugar beet - winter wheat – winter wheat. The development of Heterodera schachtii (Schmidt) is described by an exponential function. Under constant conditions assumpted, the infestation of soil by nematodes is approaching a specific density typical of the cultivation method. The degree of infestation determines the degree of propagation and in relation to the specific density the development of the whole population of Heterodera schachtii (Schmidt). The success of cultivation technique and frequency of catch crop depends on this long term development.
