W. AUFHAMMER and K.-G. FEDEROLF:

Effects of seed treatments with plant growth regulators on the development and the yield of hard winter wheat (Triticum durum Desf.)

Summary

In factorial field experiments effects of seed treatments with plant growth regulators (Kinetin, Tetcyclasis and Paclobutrazol) on the development and the yield of T. durum (cv. Windur) were investigated. Seed treatments with Kinetin showed no important reactions. Treatments with growth retardants decreased field emergence and tillering rates partly remarkably and in consequence ear numbers/m2. Presumably reduced field emergence was combined with seed quality. Especially in early sown stands (September) treatments reduced the percentage of partly sterile ears, lodging scores and the attack of footrot (Cercosporella ssp.) as compared to untreated control plots. Concerning seed yields per ha effects of low ear numbers were compensated and even overcompensated by the number of seeds per ear and 1000-seed weights. Under applied aspects results are discussed briefly in combination with literature. Key words: hard-wheat, seed-yields, seed-treatments.
