Limited contingent of articles. “First come, first served” applies.

Please note: It is anticipated that the APC quota allocated to BOKU for articles in Gold OA Journals will not be sufficient in 2026.

Articles in affected journals that are accepted after the quota has been exhausted will not be eligible for funding via the agreement.

Members of BOKU that meet the criteria of the publishing agreement will receive a discount of 20% (Core Gold Journals) or 15% (Cell Press and The Lancet).

Eligible Article Types

Hybrid OA: no restriction

Gold OA: only Full length articles (FLA) und Review articles (REV)

Please note that some Gold OA Journals primarily publish article types that are not included in the agreement. These include:

  • Data in Brief
  • MethodsX
  • SoftwareX
  • STAR Protocols

Book reviews are always excluded from funding.

Funding Criteria
  • The corresponding author1 is a member of BOKU according to UG 2002 §94 at the time of acceptance and states “BOKU University” as their affiliation (see latest Affiliation Policy, published 17.04.2025).
  • The Acknowledgment contains: "Open access funding provided by BOKU University"

The following also applies to FWF articles:

  • CC BY 4.0 License
  • The Acknowledgment contains: „This research was funded in whole or in part by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) [grant DOI]. For open access purposes, the author has applied a CC BY public copyright license to any author accepted manuscript version arising from this submission.“

Available Licences

CC BY 4.0, CC BY-NC-ND 4.0.

The library recommends choosing the CC BY 4.0 license, as it best corresponds to the Open Access ideal. Publications from FWF projects must always use this license.

Workflow

Authors can select the agreement after acceptance, provided that their affiliation with BOKU has been correctly stated or recognized.

The library reviews the request.

Additional CostsAdditional costs such as Color Charges, Page Charges, Submission Fees etc. are not covered by the agreement. Only OA-costs are covered.
