The ABOL initiative is dedicated to capture the genetic diversity of Austria using DNA barcoding. Through cooperation between the Institute of Integrative Nature Conservation Research and ABOL (Austrian Barcode of Life), the workgroup is contributing to improving and expanding the data basis for Austrian biodiversity. The samples are sequenced using Sanger and Illumina technologies, barcodes are determined and created, and then uploaded to BOLD (Barcode of Life Data Systems) for open use. The focus is on genotyping plants but barcodes of fish and bees are also continually being generated.
