Application period

Applications for Erasmus+ grants for internships beginning in the 2026/27 winter semester:

  • starting now until 30 November 2026 at the latest

Please note the minimum and maximum funding periods. Only complete applications can be processed. Funding per semester is subject to budget availability. Only one Erasmus+ internship per academic year may be funded per person. 

Traineeship requirements

Regular students at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) who meet the following minimum requirements may apply for an ERASMUS+ internship grant:

  • You must be in at least your third semester of your degree program at the time you begin your ERASMUS+ stay,
  • You must have successfully completed at least 20 ECTS credits at BOKU (from the same degree program or the BOKU Bachelor’s Preparatory Program) by the application deadline (for doctoral students, fewer ECTS credits are accepted provided there is a confirmation from a supervisor attesting to a proportionate workload for the doctoral program),
  • You must be able to demonstrate a grade point average of 2.8 or higher,
  • You must possess the required language proficiency.
  • Minimum and maximum funding duration: 2 months (for longer internships, the period exceeding 2 months is considered a so-called “zero grant period”)
  • If you have a valid employment contract with BOKU during the internship: an approved business travel order
  • No funding is available for research internships related to master’s theses (→ please use the KUWI funding for this purpose)
  • No funding for doctoral students who are already receiving funding for their stay abroad through a DocSchool

Each student has 12 months available for Erasmus+ study abroad during their bachelor’s program, 12 months during their master’s program, and an additional 12 months during their doctoral program. These 12 months can be used - in any combination - for Erasmus+ internships and/or Erasmus+ study abroad programs (only one mobility period per academic year per Erasmus+ program track is permitted per person). Any previous Erasmus stays at the same level of study - regardless of which university they were from or whether they were study periods or internships - must be deducted from the available 12 months.

To get an Erasmus+ scholarship age, nationality, duration of study, … do not matter.
There is also no limit as to how much you are allowed to earn.

Please, be aware, that there is no legal claim to the scholarship. The award depends on budget availability!

You can not request a leave at Study Services as you need to be fully enrolled at BOKU during your Erasmus+ Traineeship stay. However, the tuition fee can be waived if your traineeship takes place within one month of the semester (BOKU semester) (i.e. if the internship lasts at least 30 days during the semester - excluding summer vacation (i.e. summer semester until 30.06. and winter semester until the end of February).

Note: BOKU students and doctoral students who are also BOKU employees and have a valid employment contract during their mobility period must apply for a business trip assignment for their mobility and can receive the Erasmus+ grant retrospectively with a business trip statement in accordance with BOKU's business trip guidelines. Please contact your supervisor in good time before applying for further information and note the prohibition on double funding in relation to EU funds.

  • min. 2 (full) months

Students with fewer opportunities (students receiving study grants ("Studienbeihilfe"), students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, for students with children) are exempted from the maximum duration above.

The traineeship has to be full-time, i.e. you have to work at least 35 hours per week.

Funding is granted for traineeships related to your BOKU studies and taking place during your studies (application for Erasmus grant preferably 2 months prior to start of internship!).

Regardless of the type of your internship (during your studies or after graduation), you need to prove that the placement is relevant for your BOKU studies (signature of the Fachstuko on the Learning Agreement for Traineeships is necessary) before you leave.
