Currency

Since the 1st of January 2002, Austria has used the EURO (€) as its official currency. One Euro = 100 Cents. The Euro is valid in the so-called Euro-Zone. Besides Austria, these countries are Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Cyprus.

Costs

For European standards, the cost of living in Austria is average. During their stay in Vienna, most Erasmus students need about € 1.000 to € 1.500 Euros per month.

Accommodation approx. € 300 to € 600 (including heating and lighting)
Food approx. € 400 to € 500 (excluding luxuries and tobacco)
Other Expenses approx. € 300 to € 400 (books, culture, recreation)

Price examples:

TÜWI offers meals from € 6,50; a coffee is usually around € 4; a beer (0,5l) is around € 5 a cinema ticket is € 11.
