Traffic Forecasts – Opportunities and Limitations

Many of you are likely familiar with the saying, "Predictions are difficult, especially when they concern the future."

The 2023 FSV Planning Seminar is dedicated to the challenge of creating traffic forecasts. The seminar will present and explain the state-of-the-art methods and the data and information that can be utilized in this process.
What challenges arise when creating forecasts?
How do we deal with uncertainties?
What are the limitations of making predictions?

In the first session, we will discuss common methods for creating traffic forecasts.
The second session will focus on case studies involving different spatial scales. How does the "altitude" (level of abstraction) influence the methods, the scope, the forecast period, or the level of detail in the results?
The final session will address thematic case studies, focusing on specific projects, the implementation of measures, or strategies.

As usual, this two-half-day event will consist of a mix of keynote presentations, reflective workshops, and group discussions. This year, it will once again be held in cooperation with the Endowed Professorship for Digitalization and Automation in the Transport and Mobility System at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). There will be ample time for exchanging ideas both within the official program and informally outside of it.

The event is organized in cooperation between the Austrian Research Association for Road-Rail-Traffic (FSV) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).

Children's University 2023: Two Workshops Offered by the Institute for Transport Studies

  • Kinderuni an der BOKU Wien 2023

"At 80 through the streets?" gave children aged 10 to 12 insights into the experiences of an 80-year-old person in road traffic.
The workshop also provided an understanding of what it might feel like to navigate in a wheelchair or with a white cane. Using an app, the children were able to collect their own impressions of what they find positive and negative as pedestrians in road traffic.

In the workshop "What drives you?" children aged 7 to 9 explored what it means to travel sustainably and learned how to read bus schedules and route information at a bus stop.

We are already looking forward to Children's University 2024!
