The Myth of Tauernschecken – Exhibition in the University Library

Tauernschecken: What’s that?

The Tauernschecken goat is an autochthonous endangered breed of goat, native to the High and Lower Tauern of Austria. The rescue of the breed from extinction and the ways of its preservation has many stories. These were documented in a book and a film, each initiated and made possible by Rocco Damm. In this exhibition, a third "tool" of the breed's publicity is presented – the BOX. In a mobile exhibition box, the history and knowledge about Tauernschecken breeding are transmitted for the next (breeder) generations. The box contains numerous display boards, video and film documents, herd books, goat keeping utensils. The KISTE is based in Rauris and goes out to schools, to breeders' meetings, to presentations and also to the BOKU. The project idea comes from the Upper Austrian breeder Dipl.Ing. Adalbert Böker, he other members of the working group are Christian Silbergasser, chairman of the traditional association "Raurisker", which has also taken over the project sponsorship, as well as Tauernschecken pioneer Johann Wallner from the very beginning and Mag. Michael Fazokas (author of the book "Mythos Tauernschecken").
